Providing outstanding programming with a commitment to both the classics and to Northwest composers

Commitment to Outstanding Programming

The Northwest Symphony Orchestra's 2008 - 2009 season begins in the Fall with its first concert on October 28, 2008. Classic programming include Polovtsian Dances by Borodin, Symphony #1 by Brahms, Marche Slav by Tchaikovsky, Piano Concerto #2 by Rachmaninoff, and the Four Last Songs by Strauss

Also included in the program is the music of Sam Jones as well as Seattle’s Artist of the year, cellist Joshua Roman on a work by a local composer Glenn Crytzer who was recently awarded a BMI prize.

Northwest Symphony Orchestra in the Community

The orchestra recommits itself to the Northwest and in particular to serving the South Seattle area as we continue to provide three decades of concerts and working in the community.

Michael Nicolella, acclaimed guitarist and composer, continues as the Composer-In-Residence bringing master classes and performances to attentive young audiences in the Highline School District.

Under the Educational Outreach Symphony for Students program, NWSO makes complimentary tickets available to local school music programs. Teachers may call the orchestra office at (206) 242-6321.

The NWSO also performs an annual benefit concert for Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Benaroya Hall with music written and produced by Seattle native, Mateo Messina. This year's event will be held on Friday, November 7. Last year NWSO performed Symphony Legacy and featured Ann and Nancy Wilson from the group Heart and Alice in Chains. The event raised over $170,000.

Performing again with Alice in Chains, NWSO takes part at the season opening NFL game of the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, September 14.  Hope to see you there.
